Tutor/Volunteer Job Description

Part-time/Hourly: TBD (Monday - Friday) Grade: K-8

Position Description

The primary responsibility of a tutor is to support students in their academic development. Tutors provide individual and/or group tutoring to students across a broad range of grade levels. Tutors meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class, explain processes and help students with their academic needs. Tutoring supports classroom-centered activities, and as such, the emphasis and content of the tutoring sessions are determined by the student's needs.

Tutors work with colleagues to support student learning.

General Responsibilities:

  • Increase students' educational attainment
  • Provide enrichment experiences for students
  • Increase the effective utilization of staff time and skills
  • Give more individual attention to students
  • Promote greater community involvement

Resource persons and volunteers may be used under the supervision of a certified teacher:

  • For non-teaching duties not requiring instructional judgment or evaluation of students
  • To assist with academic programs
  • To assist in times of violence or other traumatic incidents within the District by providing crisis intervention services to lessen the effects of emotional trauma on staff, students, and the community, provided the volunteer meets the qualifications established by the School Crisis Assistance Team Steering Committee
  • As a guest lecturer or resource person and with the administration's approval
  • As supervisors, chaperones, or sponsors for non-academic school activities
