Location:

Ida Crown Jewish Academy High School / Skokie, IL or Solomon Schechter Therapeutic Day School, K-8 / Northbrook, IL

Supervisor:
Therapeutic Day School Manager

Wages:
Starting at $35,000 per year with no experience / up to $40,000 based on experience and education ($24.00 to $27.00 per hour)

Status:
Full-time / 12-month / Salary / Non-exempt

The Special Education Para educator/Teacher's Assistant will work with students in our self-contained special education classrooms. The Para educator will assist students with academic, nonacademic, social, health and emotional needs of the students in the special education and general community environments.

This position will also assist teachers and related service personnel with meeting the IEP needs of students. The Para educator will provide supported instruction and strategies to individual students, small groups of students as well as monitor students per the instruction of the teacher. The Para educator may be assigned to other students or department duties as necessary.

Duties To Be Performed
  • Supporting the classroom teachers in providing a comprehensive educational program to students with significant disabilities; to include autism, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and behavioral challenges
  • In addition to providing classroom and community-based instruction, candidates must be physically able to support students with high levels of energy and potential behavior challenges including assisting with lifting students for the purpose of changing and transfers
  • Must be willing to assist students in all aspects of personal care
  • Must be able to assist with lifting students for the purpose of changing and transfers
  • Must be able to meet the training requirements outlined in the Safety Care Manual
Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible to apply for an Illinois State Board of Education Paraprofessional license
  • Sub license preferred
  • Previous experience with individuals with disabilities is helpful
  • Demonstrate calm leadership in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of Judaic culture is helpful
  • Hold a valid drivers license and a safe driving record
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must maintain a current certification in CPR and Safety Care, provided through Keshet
