Para educator Tutor ELL and World Languages

The job of Para educator Tutor ELL and World Languages is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom and resource center with specific responsibility for assisting in the assessment of students' English language acquisition; administering tests; performing classroom clerical tasks and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with non-English speaking persons.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Illinois Paraprofessional License or Substitute License as required by ISBE
  • Experience working successfully in a diverse, multicultural environment

Required Skills:

  • Perform multiple tasks with potential need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support
  • Administers classroom assessments and facilitates make-up work; reviews homework assignments to support student learning and reinforce instruction.
  • Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of the teacher to support curriculum delivery and student comprehension.
  • Assists students individually and in small groups within ELL sheltered classrooms and the Language Lab to reinforce academic concepts and language development.
  • Tutor students under teacher direction to support assignment completion and reinforce learning objectives.
  • Develops and prepares instructional materials to assist teachers in delivering curriculum effectively.
  • Student Support & Learning Environment
  • Monitors students in a variety of settings to ensure a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
  • Provides short-term supervision in designated settings to maintain continuity of instruction and a positive environment.
  • Orients new students and families to school procedures, programs, and expectations to promote a smooth transition.
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Assists teachers in identifying student needs and communicating relevant information to instructional personnel and families.
  • Translates verbal and written communications to support bilingual access for students and families.
  • Administrative & Program Support
  • Prepares logs, reports, and documentation to communicate information and meet district and compliance requirements.
  • Maintains the Language Lab to ensure functionality and supports both teacher and student use of resources.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the efficient and effective operation of the department and Niles Township High School District 219.

Terms of Employment: 187 day working calendar

Working Conditions:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Salary Range: P1 with hourly bump for BA degree or higher
