The Village of Skokie, IL is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of full time Civil Engineer I. You will be a valued member of the Engineering Division team, directing the preparation of design plans and specifications for Village improvement projects such as street resurfacing, alley, bike path, parking lot paving, rehabilitation, installation of sewer and water mains, stormwater management, and lead water service replacement.
Responsibilities- Coordinate projects with outside agencies.
- Make engineering computations for topographic, cross‑section, and other engineering work.
- Conduct field inspections, resolve problems, and provide solution recommendations.
- Prepare, analyze, and review engineering reports and write summaries.
- Create sketches for preliminary or survey work, and as guides to technicians.
- Work directly with contractors on construction‑related discussions and problem resolution under supervision.
- Record data, prepare records, and maintain divisional files.
- Assist other departments by reviewing and processing back‑up information for reports.
- Respond to citizen requests and provide recommendations.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Professional Engineer license in Illinois desirable).
- Previous municipal engineering experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of construction and land survey standards, maps, records, drafting symbols, and materials.
- Proficient in using engineering and survey instruments, performing computations, and preparing plans and sketches.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Ability to follow all safety rules and regulations of the Village.
The annual salary range for this position is $81,354.88 – $. The starting salary range is $81,354.88 – $89,693.76 (DOQ).
