Patient Care Technician, Orthopedic Medical Surgical Tele, Evening

Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse and performs patient care tasks essential to patient comfort and safety. The PCT provides appropriate care for patients of all ages on the assigned unit, following established procedures and the values of Endeavor Health. PCTs perform hourly rounding, patient transfers, basic nursing care, and collaborate closely with nursing staff.

• Interact with patients and visitors, answer call lights and phones, and provide courteous customer service.
• Perform purposeful hourly rounding for all assigned patients.
• Assist in patient safe handling, ambulation, and repositioning using appropriate equipment.
• Provide basic nursing care (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting, and bed making under RN/LPN supervision.
• Support admission, discharge, and transfer processes, including room setup, orientation, and transportation of patients.
• Accurately document patient care activities: vital signs, weights, intake-output, calorie counts, urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care, specimen collection, and point‑of‑care blood sugar testing.
• Maintain skin integrity and report problems promptly to the healthcare team.
• Remain with patients as a care companion/sitter when directed by RN/LPN.
• Assume indirect unit support duties such as restocking equipment, cleaning, answering calls, filing, and delivering supplies.

• Education:
  
  Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program is preferred.
• Experience:
  
  At least one nursing clinical rotation in medical/surgical nursing preferred; no experience required.
• Licensure/Certification:
  Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare provider (to be obtained within 90 days if not currently held).
• Skills:
  
  Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, prioritization, and follow‑through skills; commitment to patient welfare, awareness of fire and safety procedures, and ability to train in patient care skill tasks.

Work involves continuous visual and auditory attention, manual dexterity, and the ability to use patient movement equipment. Exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals, and other hazards may occur. Employees may be required to lift up to 50 pounds and work under pressure to meet patient care needs.

Basic computer skills are required.
