Hourly Pay Range: $18.84 - $27.32. Position:
Public Safety Officer.
Location:
Skokie Hospital. Part Time - Per Diem.
Hours:
Rotating Shifts.
- Under general supervision and established policies, provide unarmed uniformed security/safety services to support the department’s mission of protecting persons and property.
- Patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in motorized vehicle; investigate unusual occurrences.
- Report incidents or potential loss of hospital, employee, patient or visitor property and involve police as necessary.
- Respond to all service calls promptly, safely, professionally and courteously; welcome customers to the hospital.
- Provide timely and accurate directions to patients and visitors and escort individuals when possible.
- Direct vehicle traffic around hospital facilities to prevent congestion and clear loading docks and ambulance zones of unauthorized vehicles.
- Issue parking citations and maintain records.
- Physically restrain unruly or threatening individuals and involve police when required; provide assistance during investigations and court testimony.
- Administer control systems to protect patient and employee valuables and supervise handling of lost and found items.
- Check that hospital doors and windows are securely locked and that fire extinguishers, alarms and related equipment are functional.
- Notify appropriate personnel of any problems and investigate, document, and record thefts, accidents, and other incidents to preserve evidence.
- Prepare documentation in a neat, accurate, and complete manner.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1 year of customer‑focused, service‑based experience.
- Preferred 2+ years of experience in law enforcement, military, or private security; experience in a healthcare environment; fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention, and fire/security technology.
- Valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card within 90 days of start date.
- Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of start date.
- Valid driver’s license; if using a personal vehicle, maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law.
- Assessment and training: CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within six months; IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer training within 12 months.
