Performs highly advanced motor vehicle maintenance and repair work. Work involves estimating repairs; requisitioning parts and supplies; maintaining records of work performed and coordinating the operation of a motor vehicle and equipment repair shop. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of the operation of motorized equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, computerized systems, and emission control systems.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to maintenance and repair shops.
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
- Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in problem‑solving techniques.
- Skill in the use of technical testing equipment used to diagnose automotive malfunctions.
- Skill in the use of parts books and service manuals.
- Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
- Skill to plan, organize, and assign the work of inmates.
- Skill in the use of machinery and equipment in assigned area preferred.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
- Conditions include working inside and outside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness and chill, dry atmosphere, excessive or intermittent noise, constant noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, oils, solvents, silica, asbestos, vibration, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.
