The Field Service Technician
Performs onsite hydraulic clutch/brake performance monitoring for diagnostics and fine‑tune adjustments of Ortlinghaus hydraulic controls on automotive stamping presses throughout North America. Works during press downtime or emergency breakdowns at OEM, Tier 1 and Tier 2 vehicle stamping facilities. The ideal candidate is a safety‑first professional who communicates clearly with plant personnel, performs inspections, rebuilds and repairs Ortlinghaus industrial clutches and brakes and peripheral components at customer locations.
When not performing service work, responsibilities include QA inspections, writing service and inspection reports, and backing up the senior mechanic in configuring and rebuilding clutches and brakes.
CompensationExempt salary, based on experience.
LocationSolon, Ohio – 100 % onsite.
TravelApproximately 30–50 % of the time, including occasional trips to Mexico. Required.
SchedulePrimarily Monday–Friday. Schedule varies based on business need.

Work includes traveling to stamping facilities and connecting DAQ instruments to stamping presses for measuring, monitoring, and fine‑tuning Ortlinghaus hydraulic progressive controls. Occasional after‑hours and weekend availability is required for urgent service needs. The position will disassemble, inspect worn clutch/brakes for wear and damage, perform rebuilds of clutch/brake units by replacing worn components, and rebuild/assemble to factory specifications. Reconfiguring new pneumatic and hydraulic clutches and brakes by disassembling and swapping out components.
Work will be performed at Orttech service center as well as at customer locations as required.
The mechanic/field service technician must possess strong mechanical and technical expertise in industrial equipment, specifically Ortlinghaus hydraulic clutch and brake systems for metal stamping presses. Classroom and field training will be provided.

- Hydraulic test stands, pressure/flow test kits, nitrogen chargers for accumulators
- Torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, feeler gauges, alignment tools
- Laptop for DAQ press monitoring
- Lifting/rigging basics for assemblies; safe use of hoists and cranes
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs (23 kg) and work in industrial environments (noise, oil, heat)
- Comfortable with standing, walking, climbing ladders and industrial spiral stairs, kneeling, and reaching during service tasks
- Comfortable with heights of up to 50 ft, riding on manlifts, walking on the crown of metal stamping presses on surfaces that are often oily and/or dirty
- Use of PPE (safety glasses, steel‑toe boots, gloves, hearing protection) and adherence to site requirements
- Travel: 30–50 %, occasionally short‑notice trips to support urgent downtime recovery
- Overnight stay for periods typically 2 to 5 days in duration
- Occasional travel to Mexico
- Schedule:
Primarily weekdays; occasional nights/weekends to support production and planned outages
- Technical degree highly preferred
- Strong mechanical technical knowledge — required
- Computer proficiency — required
- Ability to clearly and professionally communicate with plant personnel
