The City of Solon Facilities Department is seeking a dependable and service-oriented individual to join our team as a part-time Custodian at the Senior Center. This position is responsible for a variety of custodial, cleaning, sanitation, and general facilities support duties. The Custodian plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for senior citizens, visitors, employees, and the public.
Key Responsibilities- Clean and maintain floors, carpets, restrooms, offices, activity rooms, hallways, entrances, and common areas.
- Empty trash and recycling and replenish restroom and cleaning supplies.
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces and promptly address spills and other safety concerns.
- Assist with setting up and rearranging rooms, tables, chairs, and equipment for programs, meetings, and events.
- Maintain assigned outdoor areas, including entrances, walkways, and patios.
- Inspect facilities and equipment and report maintenance needs, safety hazards, and equipment problems.
- Open, close, lock, unlock, and secure City facilities as directed.
- Safely operate custodial and maintenance equipment and properly handle cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Follow City policies, safety procedures, and established work schedules.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred and may be required depending on assignment.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, building maintenance, or grounds maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning products, custodial equipment, basic maintenance tools, and workplace safety practices.
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with staff and the public.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling as required.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Valid State of Ohio driver's license may be required depending on assignment.
Work is performed primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Employees may operate cleaning and maintenance equipment that produces moderate noise.
