General Labor- Waste Water; IN, South Bend

SALARY: up to $20.06 per hour SUMMARY

Performs a variety of manual labor tasks. Provides general maintenance of the buildings and grounds at the Wastewater Treatment plant, Lift stations, Combined Sewer Overflow points and related work as assigned. Under direct supervision and indirect supervision.

• Clean buildings, equipment, tunnels, and hose down or pressure wash tanks at the facility.
• Must be able to walk behind a push mower.
• Maintain fence lines and keep areas free of weeds.
• Clean various City vehicles.
• Operate various types of equipment associated with building and grounds maintenance.
• Must be able to paint exterior and interior facilities, piping, tanks, and equipment.
• Aids and assists Parts Manager.
• Aids and assists other maintenance and operations personnel.
• Grounds maintenance at the Wastewater Facility and numerous offsite locations.
• Replace bad light bulbs.
• Must be able to work alone.
• Must be able to make sound decisions independently.
• Must be able to climb and work from a ladder.
• Must be able to work on one’s feet and to remain alert at all times.
• Must interact with co-workers and the public with tact and diplomacy.
• Must be able to work in high places.
• Must be able to work around open tanks and confined spaces.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

• Ability to perform physical labor.
• Ability to manage time without close supervision.
• Ability to follow directions and relay work accomplished in an effective manner.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Ability to operate various types of equipment such as floor scrubbers, floor sweepers, lawn mowers, lawn tractors, weed eaters, string trimmer, hedge trimmers, snow blower, forklift, and city automobiles.

• Ability to use hand tools, shovel, etc.
• Ability to work outdoors sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
• Exposure to oil, greases, solvents, and other chemicals that may be hazardous.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
