General Statement of Job
Under limited supervision, supervises the activities of evening school custodial personnel in order to ensure the proper maintenance of school buildings and grounds. Supervises assigned custodians. Reports to the Building Custodial Coordinator.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
:
- Supervises evening school custodial activities, ensuring the proper maintenance and cleanliness of school buildings in accordance with established regulations and standards.
- Supervises duties of assigned custodial staff, including instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; and allocating personnel and acting on employee problems.
- Inspects building thoroughly on a regular basis for safety, cleanliness, temperature, etc.
- Ensures the availability of equipment required for daily tasks.
- May be required to respond to emergency calls.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including maintenance records, time sheets, work schedules, work orders, memos, etc.
- Operates a variety of equipment, such as a telephone, floor buffer, carpet cleaner, vacuum, sweeper, hand and power tools, cleaning equipment and tools.
- Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, subordinates, school staff, and students.
- Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives.

- Conducts custodial duties including cleaning buildings, changing light fixtures, moving furniture, and conducting minor repairs to equipment.
- Unlocks /secures building and rooms.
- Sets up chairs, tables and other equipment for special programs.
- Performs related duties as required.
Requires a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by one year of experience in building maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Physical Requirements
:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a telephone, cleaning equipment, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, climb, balance and perform manual tasks.
Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds.

:
Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to subordinates and receiving assignments and/or direction from supervisor.

:
Requires the ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, maintenance manuals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare routine reports and records, memos, etc., with proper format. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with clarity, voice control and confidence.

:
Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form, to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
