Job Responsibilities

Performs grounds keeping duties around the 2400-acre complex to include: mowing, raking leaves and landscaping to keep grounds free of debris for outside facility appearance. Trims, fells and disposes of shrubbery and trees. Assist Forestry Commission with control burns /maintain fire breaks for environmental purposes. Performs outfall culvert maintenance and inspections with various landscaping equipment. The use of hand tools for small engine repair and other equipment assigned to the base.

Heavy equipment operation with base perimeter road maintenance. Installation of traffic signs and pavement markings, and ditch maintenance. Use of sweeper to aid in maintenance of runway avoiding foreign object intrusion during flying operations. Concrete/asphalt maintenance to include sidewalks, roads, runways and taxiways. Minor construction projects to include vertical, horizontal and demolition. Maintain and repair nine miles of installation boundary fencing and perimeter roads.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and custodial or grounds keeping experience directly related to the area of employment. Applicants must maintain and possess a valid South Carolina driver's license and be able to pass a background check and drug testing for access to military base. Must have the ability to work shifts or extended hours.

Additional Comments

Knowledge of how to properly carry out grounds keeping tasks. Knowledge in safety practices relevant to the area of employment. Individuals must be proficient in maintaining hand tools and powered grounds keeping equipment allowing for safe operating conditions. Individuals must have the ability to be flexible for wide range of tasks. Welding /fabrication for repairs of equipment. Individuals must have the ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision and train other employees.
