Location: Columbia
Responsibilities
- Supervise custodial personnel and contracted support at McCrady Training Center and SCARNG facilities statewide.
- Perform custodial duties, including maintenance of floor finishes, wall finishes, windows, doors, latrine spaces, restrooms, showers, and other surfaces.
- Schedule and coordinate floor maintenance activities such as stripping, sealing, waxing, and polishing to meet tenant and customer schedules.
- Oversee sweeping, mopping, vacuuming of carpeted areas, and cleaning of mirrors, toilets, urinals, and showers.
- Replenish paper towels, toilet tissue, hand soap, and other supplies, and empty trash as required.
- Develop scope of work, prepare RFPs and specifications, review contractor bids, award contracts, and supervise contractor work to ensure completion to standard.
- Confirm contractor payments, conduct final inspections, and schedule contractor work with affected tenants/customers.
- Manage time and attendance for custodial employees and state employee travel for official business.
- Complete SHRO required paperwork, including evaluations, counseling forms, and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain custodial supplies and equipment, contact vendors and contractors for quotes, and prepare purchase requests.
- Coordinate ordering, shipment, receipt, and payment of goods with the State Warehouse to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Issue supplies and equipment, maintain chain of custody, and coordinate with the Training Center Warehouse Manager for inventory and equipment turnover.
- High school diploma and custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.
- Knowledge of how to properly carry out custodial, groundskeeping or maintenance tasks, as well as relevant standards, requirements, and safety practices.
- Knowledge of personnel, procurement, and budgeting practices in state government.
- Knowledge of the concepts and techniques of on-the-job training.
- Ability to keep accurate written records, prioritize tasks, and make optimal use of personnel, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to plan, direct, and review the work of subordinates; act as line manager performing administrative and supervisory tasks rather than hands‑on duties.
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license and completion of the agency’s driver safety course.
- Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
