Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Facilities Maintenance Technician
  • Support all facility management programs at DMV HQ building.
  • Complete modular furniture buildouts as required; escort vendors as needed and ensure goods/services are received per contract requirements.
  • Augment fleet management with duties such as car deliveries, maintenance schedules, and vehicle exchanges.
  • Set up furniture for functions, training or as needed in Headquarters and in branch offices across the state; monitor the Key Accountability Program.
  • Perform all disciplines of maintenance, custodial and horticulture services as needed at branch offices; provide preventive maintenance (PM) as directed or according to any PM programs.
  • Become familiar with contractual limitations on maintenance repairs of any leased facilities in your region.
  • Perform a walk‑around inspection of the facility upon arrival and remove trash and debris.
  • Monitor activities of contractors/suppliers as needed, ensuring the procured goods and services are provided accurately.
  • Complete assigned safety training; review information on unfamiliar equipment prior to use; ask for clarification as needed; maintain all issued equipment in a safe and professional manner.
  • Respond to emergency calls on a 24‑hour basis.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by manager.
Agency Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and trade experience related to the area of employment.
  • Must complete a nationwide criminal background check to include fingerprinting.
Additional Requirements
  • General knowledge and ability to perform all areas of building maintenance, minor construction, custodial and horticulture.
  • Working knowledge of State Procurement regulations is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of how to operate a PC and ability to learn work order software.
  • Interpret working drawings and blueprints; complete safety training as assigned.
  • Knowledge of appropriate personal protective equipment and wear it when performing tasks.
  • HVAC and electrical knowledge is preferred.
  • Project a professional attitude.
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Make independent decisions as required and prioritize workloads to meet schedules and goals.
  • Employee based at SCDMV Headquarters in Blythewood, will work statewide as needed.
  • Maintain a valid SC driver’s license.
  • Physically able to bend, lift 50 lbs., climb ladders & work in confined spaces; carry a state phone; on call 24/7; work extended hours on occasion/short notice; overnight travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma with a minimum of five (5) years experience directly related to the area of employment and diversified building maintenance experience.
  • Must live in or relocate to one of the counties in the assigned region.
