Custodian-Edgefield Head Start Center

Responsibilities

• Perform sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, emptying trash, and cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, lobby, hallways, stairwells, dining areas, basement, stock rooms, and storage rooms according to the cleaning schedule.
• Check and maintain supplies in restrooms.
• Organize and maintain janitorial supplies required in buildings.
• Maintain clean outside walkways, driveways and yards.
• Wax and sand floors on a scheduled basis.
• Help staff set up for meetings by moving tables, chairs and equipment.
• Assist in minor building repairs and contact vendors for repairs.
• Pick up and deliver supplies, mail, and other items as needed.
• Keep building and outside areas safe during inclement weather.
• Report to management pilferage, damage, safety violations, and needs for major repairs or additions.

• Deep clean the Head Start Center, including tasks outlined in the Custodial Summer Task List.
• Ensure thorough cleaning during summer break under supervisory review of the Center Coordinator.
• Perform additional work such as painting or minor repair as assigned.

Responsible for the cleanliness of assigned buildings.

Variety of cleaning equipment.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Requires understanding and carrying out oral and written directions, setting work priorities, working independently in the absence of supervision, and establishing cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read cleaning supplies labels and instructions.
• Combination of education and experience commensurate with the job.
• Minimum one year experience in janitorial activities.
• Valid South Carolina Driver’s License and obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 90 days of employment.
