Classified Substitute (Support Staff)
Classified substitutes provide temporary support in a variety of non-instructional roles such as food service, maintenance, custodial services, and transportation. These individuals play a vital role in the smooth and safe operation of the school district and are called upon to fill in when regular staff are absent. Assignments and responsibilities may vary based on the department's needs.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the preparation and service of meals (Food Service)
- Cleaning and maintaining school buildings and grounds (Custodial/Maintenance)
- Performing general repairs and upkeep of facilities (Maintenance)
- Safely transporting students to and from school or events (Transportation/Bus Drivers)
- Following all district safety procedures and protocols
- Maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor at all times
- Communicating effectively with staff, students, and supervisors
- Completing tasks as directed by the site administrator or department supervisor
- Reporting any incidents, safety concerns, or maintenance needs promptly
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Prior experience in the related field (food service, custodial, maintenance, or transportation) preferred
- Must pass a background check and any department-specific screenings
- For bus drivers:
Must hold a valid CDL with required endorsements and meet all applicable driving and safety requirements
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Flexibility to adapt to various work environments and tasks
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and dependability
- Basic understanding of safety practices and procedures
- Willingness to learn new tasks and procedures as needed
Working conditions:
- May involve working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Requires the ability to lift, bend, stand, or sit for extended periods depending on the assignment
- May involve exposure to cleaning supplies, kitchen equipment, or vehicle operation
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated by the site administrator or department supervisor in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Terms of employment:
As-needed basis; no guarantee of hours or consistent schedule. Compensation aligned with the district's classified substitute pay. No benefits are associated with this position unless otherwise stated.
