Position Summary
The Janitor/Custodian’s role is to ensure that the client’s facilities are sanitary, organized and safe. They provide consistent quality services by regularly performing tasks such as general cleaning, dusting, damp mopping floors, sanitizing bathrooms and furniture, and emptying trash. In absence of a designated Floor Technician, they may perform functions such as buffing floors and detail work. They report and address hazardous conditions promptly.

Directly reports to immediate supervisor and/or Account Manager.
Essential Job Functions- Clean and sanitize all assigned work areas, including bathroom sinks, toilets, tubs/showers and commodes.
- Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors and stairways.
- Polish furniture, metal work, and chrome using appropriate cleaning and polishing compounds.
- Dust items such as blinds, furniture, file cabinets, and windowsills using treated dust mittens or cloths.
- Gather and dispose debris or trash.
- Prioritize work assignments to complete tasks in a timely manner, adjusting based on unforeseen events (e.g., spills).
- Inform the supervisor when tasks need to be reprioritized or assignments must change.
- Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, and chrome using appropriate cleaning and polishing compounds and ladders.
- Clean grounds and parking lots of litter, glass, and other debris as needed.
- Empty garbage receptacles and perform other activities to keep the environment clean and tidy.
- Recognize and report unsafe conditions and maintenance problems to supervisors and intervene immediately as needed.
- Adhere to infection control procedures.
- Ensure buildings are secured and locked at appropriate times.
- Report needed repairs, safety hazards, or conditions requiring outside vendor services.
- Use all equipment and chemicals safely, following equipment manual, SDS instructions, and training.
- Follow written directions when using chemicals and mix safely.
- Use equipment appropriately to avoid injuries.
- Employ proper lifting techniques.
- Attend staff meetings, including Safety Meetings.
- Wear proper clothing (e.g., slip resistant, closed toe shoes) at all times.
- Work during hours that do not conflict with client schedules or impose safety hazards.
- Request assistance from coworkers as needed to ensure safety.
- Represent US&S in a positive manner at all times; report and respond to client grievances immediately.
- Request and provide assistance to coworkers as needed.
- Inform supervisor when tasks need to be reprioritized or assignments/schedules must change, or when assignments cannot be completed.
- Provide training to other Janitors as needed.
- Engage in Quality Assurance Functions, such as reading and filling out checklists.
- Participate in investigations, including writing statements and/or participating in interviews.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures, including those outlined in the US&S Employee Handbook and the US&S, Inc. Safety and Health Manual.
Physical activity requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for sustained periods, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, manual dexterity, feeling, talking and hearing, repetitive motions, and exposure to vibration.
Exertance includes up to 50 pounds of force on occasion, 30 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
