Position: 26-27 Custodian

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly school facilities and grounds to support an environment conducive to learning and district operations. The Custodian performs routine cleaning, sanitation, minor maintenance, groundskeeping, and facility support duties and assists with the proper care and security of district buildings, equipment, and property.
Essential Functions:
Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, cafeterias, common areas, and other assigned areas in accordance with established district procedures and schedules.Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and otherwise maintain floors and floor coverings as appropriate.Clean and disinfect restrooms, sanitary fixtures, drinking fountains, high-touch surfaces, and other areas to maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness and sanitation.Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windows, walls, doors, equipment, and other building surfaces as needed.Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, rubbish, and other waste in accordance with applicable procedures and requirements.Maintain sidewalks, entrances, driveways, playgrounds, grounds, and other assigned exterior areas in a clean and safe condition.Perform groundskeeping duties, including grass cutting, trimming, removal of debris, and other routine grounds maintenance as assigned.Monitor building conditions and promptly report safety hazards, property damage, needed repairs, equipment malfunctions, and other concerns to the Principal or appropriate personnel.Perform minor maintenance and repairs within the employee's training and assigned responsibilities and submit or communicate requests for repairs requiring maintenance personnel.Monitor heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, plumbing, and other building systems and report problems or make authorized adjustments as appropriate.Inspect doors, exits, locks, panic hardware, and other assigned safety features and report concerns promptly.Assist with opening, closing, and securing school facilities as assigned, including ensuring that doors and windows are secured and appropriate lights and equipment are turned off.Move and arrange furniture, equipment, supplies, and other materials to support classroom activities, meetings, programs, special events, and facility needs.Maintain appropriate inventories of custodial supplies and equipment and notify the Principal or designee when additional supplies or replacements are needed.Properly use, clean, maintain, and store custodial equipment, tools, cleaning products, and chemicals in accordance with manufacturer instructions, district procedures, and applicable safety requirements.Follow established procedures for handling cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, hazardous materials, and other substances requiring special precautions, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.Assist with preparation and cleanup of facilities for school activities, meetings, athletic events, community use, and other authorized functions as assigned.Respond to spills, sanitation concerns, weather-related conditions, facility emergencies, and other custodial needs in a timely manner.Support energy conservation efforts by appropriately monitoring lights, water usage, heating, cooling, and other building resources within assigned responsibilities.Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.Other Duties:

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, tools, and cleaning equipment.
- Ability to safely use and properly store cleaning products and chemicals in accordance with established procedures.
- Ability to identify and report safety hazards, maintenance needs, and facility concerns.
- Ability to organize assigned work and complete required duties with limited supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with students, employees, administrators, and members of the public.
