Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance, Maintenance Technician ​/ Mechanic

This position is at the Boxelder Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center located in Nemo, SD. Responsible for responding to general maintenance work orders throughout the center. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards.

• Performs interior and exterior janitorial, building maintenance and grounds keeping assignments according to work orders.
• Performs minor building construction tasks.
• Mows lawns, maintains grounds, and picks up trash and papers.
• Changes light bulbs, replaces faulty electrical cords, etc.
• Ensures all equipment and facilities are clean and maintained in accordance with Center and DOL standards.
• The Maintenance Worker position requires skills and knowledge at maintaining residential facilities including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc., as well as knowledge and ability to run equipment such as backhoes, skid steers, forklifts, and trailer towing.
• Must have basic computer skills for checking assigned tasks.
• Working knowledge of combustion, heat transfer principles, and fuel characteristics.
• Knowledge and skills in the use of basic carpentry trade practices and techniques.
• Ability and accurate skill in the use of tapes, rulers and squares, and various shop tools and common power tools.
• Grounds maintenance may include the application of chemicals and repair of irrigation systems.
• Operates vehicles up to a 1‑ton capacity in performance of duties.
• Assists in winter snow removal and operation of snowplow and salter machine.
• The work involves identifying and analyzing conditions.
• Work requires considerable standing, bending, walking, lifting, stooping, stretching, and carrying of items or equipment more than 45 lbs.
• Work performed throughout dormitories and other Center facilities.
• Work performed requires normal safety precautions as outlined by OSHA.

• High School Diploma or GED, and one year’s related work experience.
• May be required to obtain a license to perform certain work tasks.
• Able to complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
• Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
