This position is at the Boxelder Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center located in Nemo, SD. Responsible for responding to general maintenance work orders throughout the center. Demonstrates ongoing commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Performs interior and exterior janitorial, building maintenance, and grounds keeping assignments according to work orders.
- Performs minor building construction tasks.
- Mows lawns, maintains grounds, and picks up trash and papers.
- Changes light bulbs, replaces faulty electrical cords, etc.
- Ensures all equipment and facilities are clean and maintained in accordance with Center and DOL standards.
- Maintains residential facilities including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and operates equipment such as backhoes, skid steers, forklifts, and trailer towing.
- Has basic computer skills for checking assigned tasks.
- Has working knowledge of combustion, heat transfer principles, and fuel characteristics.
- Has knowledge and skills in basic carpentry trade practices and techniques.
- Accurately uses tapes, rulers, squares, and various shop tools and common power tools.
- May apply chemicals and repair irrigation systems as part of grounds maintenance.
- Operates vehicles up to a 1‑ton capacity in performance of duties.
- Assists in winter snow removal and operation of snowplow and salter machine.
- Identifies and analyzes conditions as part of the work.
- Performs tasks that involve considerable standing, bending, walking, lifting, stooping, stretching, and carrying items or equipment more than 45 lbs.
- Works throughout dormitories and other Center facilities.
- Observes normal safety precautions as outlined by OSHA.
- High School Diploma or GED, and one year’s related work experience.
- May be required to obtain a license to perform certain work tasks.
- Able to complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
