Job Description

This position works under general direction and requires thorough knowledge of auto mechanics with automotive service excellence certification in at least four areas, two of which must be A1 engine repair and A8 engine performance. Responsibilities include leading a team of lower-level auto mechanics and/or inmates in automotive maintenance and repair, performing major overhauls of engines, handling complex equipment problems, and maintaining records and certifications.

Responsibilities
  • Lead team of lower-level auto mechanics and/or inmates in automotive maintenance and repair
  • Perform major overhauls of engines or repair most difficult and complex equipment problems
  • Perform minor and major repairs of vehicles and equipment
  • Assist inmates/mechanics in diagnosing and resolving mechanical problems, inspect completed work and ensure procedures and safety practices are followed
  • Ensure tool control policies and chemical control policies are followed
  • Repair, rebuild and replace minor and major parts (e.g., electrical system components, alternators, water or fuel pumps, clutches, brake systems)
  • Adjust valves and perform preventive maintenance and service on vehicles and equipment
  • Perform miscellaneous mechanic work (e.g., body repair work, repair or replace tires, clean or replace diesel injectors)
  • Provide service and repair of vehicles and equipment on emergency basis
  • Cleans garage area, equipment and/or tools
  • Mows grass
  • Operate equipment, snow plows and/or tow truck
  • Schedule maintenance and repairs of equipment
  • Maintain repair or service records
  • Maintain required certifications
  • Update shop manuals and parts books
  • Operate welding equipment (e.g., acetylene torch, MIG welding equipment) to heat, shape and weld machinery and equipment
  • Operate computer to enter, edit and retrieve data from computer systems
  • Perform inventories and/or orders and pick up parts and supplies
  • Control/restrict inmate movement
Qualifications
  • Automotive service excellence certification in at least four areas, two of which must be A1 engine repair & A8 engine performance, or T2 diesel engines & T8 preventive maintenance inspection.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
  • Required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use.
  • Proficient in automotive, vehicle maintenance, problem solving, flexibility, and time management.
