Position SummaryThe Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance and repair needs of a 600,000-square-foot distribution center. This position will perform general facility and equipment maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, assist with preventative maintenance, and respond to maintenance requests throughout the facility.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, dependable, and able to work independently in a fast-paced distribution environment. Candidates who have recently completed an industrial maintenance or related technical training program will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities- Perform general maintenance and repairs throughout the distribution center.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain conveyor systems, including rollers, chains, sprockets, motors, sensors, and related components.
- Identify and diagnose basic mechanical and equipment issues and determine appropriate repair needs.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
- Complete general building repairs, including doors, lighting, painting, and other facility maintenance needs.
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, including leaking or clogged fixtures.
- Assist with basic HVAC maintenance such as filter changes and preliminary troubleshooting prior to engaging outside service technicians.
- Assist with basic electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, as appropriate based on experience.
- Respond to maintenance requests and equipment issues communicated through the facility radio.
- Order and maintain appropriate inventory of routine maintenance parts, batteries, supplies, and other replacement components.
- Assist with tracking maintenance parts and inventory within the facility's maintenance management system.
- Coordinate with outside contractors and service technicians, including providing facility access and communicating basic equipment or repair needs.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow all applicable safety procedures.
- Perform additional maintenance and facility-related duties as needed.
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Candidates who have completed an industrial maintenance, maintenance technician, or similar technical certificate/program without prior professional experience will be considered.
- General mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely.
- Basic plumbing, electrical, or HVAC knowledge is preferred.
- Conveyor maintenance experience is preferred.
- Experience with motors, sensors, motor controls, PLCs, or industrial controls is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, contractors, and service technicians.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Self-motivated with the ability to identify and address maintenance needs proactively.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests in a fast-paced distribution center environment.
- During periods when the Distribution Center operates extended 10-hour shifts, Maintenance Technicians rotate coverage through 5:30 PM.
- Some schedule flexibility may be required based on operational and maintenance needs.
This position works within an approximately 600,000-square-foot distribution center supporting an operation of approximately 160 employees. The role is highly hands-on and requires regular movement throughout the facility and responsiveness to day-to-day equipment and building maintenance needs.
