Special Education Teacher

Help students with diverse learning needs reach their full potential by providing individualized instruction, behavioral support, and life skills education in a structured, relationship-focused classroom.
What You'll Do:
- Deliver individualized instruction aligned with Illinois Learning Standards.
- Develop unit plans and daily lessons tailored to student needs.
- Differentiate instruction using evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Modify curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Implement positive behavior support strategies.
- Create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, psychologists, and other specialists.
- Supervise classroom assistants.
- Maintain accurate documentation and student records.
- Communicate with parents and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support students with functional life skills throughout the school day.
- Assist with feeding and diapering/personal care when required.
- Support students with significant disabilities.
- Participate in crisis intervention procedures and professional development.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement.
- Experience teaching in a self-contained special education classroom.
- Strong behavior management skills.
- Experience supporting students with significant disabilities.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and evidence-based teaching practices.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
