Manufacturing Foreman

Our client, a manufacturer of custom engineered, precision-machined products, is seeking an accomplished Manufacturing Foreman for a permanent position to lead its manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will be self-driven and autonomous, loves to teach and be a player/coach and bring an extensive background in fabrication, welding, and machining.

Small Shop (45 employees) cutting edge - building custom products for major players (globally), large name companies, government, energy, academia, etc.

Location:

South Holland, IL (Greater Chicago) – Onsite

Direct Reports (20+):
Welders, Machinists, General Laborers, Electrical Technicians, Mechanical Testing Technician, Receiving Clerk, Waterjet Operator.

Salary: $95k – $110k (may consider higher rates for well qualified candidates)

Bonus:
Up to 10%

Schedule:

Monday-Friday 5:00am-3:30pm, (Saturday 6:00am-12:00pm as required only) - Engineering operates 1st shift only

About the Role:

This is a hands-on leadership position:
The Manufacturing Foreman will spend no less than 75% of their time on the shop floor, working directly with a 20+ member team through all phases of manufacturing. In coordination with the Production Team (Project Managers, Engineers, Quality), the Manufacturing Foreman will manage all facets of the manufacturing facility to deliver quality, timely, and cost-effective products to internal and external customers.

  • Plan and facilitate the daily operations of the Manufacturing Department and its team, including the efficient scheduling of workforce, monitoring attendance, enforcing discipline, and accurate manufacturing of products;
    Train, mentor, and develop direct reports, providing continuous instruction on proper techniques and procedures in strict adherence to manufacturing practices, and fostering the professional growth of each team member.
  • Identify material/capacity constraints and resolve internal issues, including material shortages.
  • Collaborate with all support organizations (Procurement, Engineering, Sales, and Quality) to resolve customer and internal issues and mitigate delivery and schedule risks.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of team members and monitor adherence to company policies and performance expectations;
    Enforce and comply with all Environmental Health and Safety Practices both internally and externally;
    Lead Daily Shop Key Performance Indicator meetings and report weekly results to upper management.
What We're Looking For:
  • 5+ years of welding & machining related manufacturing supervisory experience with a minimum of 20 direct reports (must like to teach and mentor staff).
  • Minimum of 10+ years of manufacturing experience total.
  • Associate's degree or higher in a technical discipline
    -or- an equivalent combination of education and hands-on manufacturing experience is equally valued.
  • Must like to work autonomously and be self-driven:
    Ability to handle multiple priorities and complex problems under time constraints in a fast paced, dynamic environment and possess strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Proven ability to evaluate production reports and metrics, make decisions that affect departmental results, and establish both short- and long-range goals.
  • Must be able to instruct and interpret GD&T and Welding Symbols (reading drawings is critical).
  • Must be flexible, like to learn, lead and work on R&D type projects.
