Environmental Services (EVS) Supervisor

HOURS:

8am-4:30pm. May require working evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call hours based on hospital operational needs.

Job Summary

The Environmental Services (EVS) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily EVS operations to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary hospital environment. This position supervises EVS personnel, coordinates staffing and assignments, monitors cleaning and disinfection practices, maintains compliance with hospital policies and applicable regulatory standards, and promotes infection prevention and patient safety. The supervisor provides leadership, training, performance oversight, and quality monitoring while ensuring departmental productivity and service standards are consistently met.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education or training in Environmental Services, Healthcare Environmental Services, Management, Infection Prevention, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of environmental services, housekeeping, healthcare, healthcare training, or related experience preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or management experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience with cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention practices, and safe chemical handling required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES (include But Not Limited To)
  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily and special event activities of Environmental Services staff.
  • Assign cleaning duties and ensure adequate staffing coverage for all hospital areas.
  • Monitor completion and quality of routine, terminal, discharge, and specialty cleaning.
  • Ensure patient rooms, treatment areas, operating/procedure areas, public areas, offices, and other assigned spaces are maintained according to established standards.
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and regulated waste.
  • Follow and enforce hospital infection prevention and environmental cleaning practices.
  • Ensure staff follow Safety Data Sheet (SDS), OSHA, PPE, and chemical safety requirements.
  • Inspect assigned areas routinely and document deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Respond promptly to spills, isolation-room cleaning needs, emergencies, and other environmental concerns.
  • Train, orient, coach, and evaluate EVS employees.
  • Ensure employees demonstrate competency in cleaning procedures, equipment use, chemical handling, and infection prevention practices.
  • Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, performance, and compliance with hospital policies.
  • Address performance issues and recommend corrective action when appropriate.
  • Maintain adequate supplies, equipment, and cleaning products and report shortages or equipment problems.
  • Coordinate with Nursing, Infection Prevention, Plant Operations, and other departments regarding environmental concerns.
  • Maintain required EVS documentation, inspection records, training records, and quality-monitoring reports.
  • Participate in infection prevention, quality improvement, safety, and regulatory readiness activities.
  • Investigate and respond to patient, visitor, and staff concerns related to environmental cleanliness.
  • Promote proper hand hygiene, PPE use, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respectful communication with patients, visitors, physicians, and employees.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
