The Maintenance Mechanic performs intermediate maintenance tasks including equipment repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance with limited supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Observe, troubleshoot, inspect, adjust and repair mechanical devices used in operations.
  • Start devices to test performance.
  • Examine physical conditions (form, texture, heat, noise) of parts to detect problems.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to, remove, repair, or replace defective parts.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and controls to identify corrections.
  • Repair electrical equipment.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts and machines.
  • Lubricate and clean parts.
  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metal‑working tools to make and repair parts.
  • Operate a forklift for the maintenance, production, and shipping departments.
  • General plant cleanup, including sweeping with push broom and vacuuming warehouse floors, cleaning hoppers, and taking waste to the landfill.
  • Pick up trash on plant property, paint, cut/pull weeks, operate the water and/or dump truck, and move empty and loaded trailers as required using the yard truck.
  • File paperwork, assist with inventory counts, data entry, quality analysis, equipment calibrations, and monitoring/inspections.
  • Conduct safety audits and attend or assist with training and presentations as required. Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3–6 months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High level of safety and quality awareness.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment, work outdoors in all seasons, climb multi‑level stairs and ladders, and work from elevated platforms using hand tools.
  • Good problem‑solving skills.
  • Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) knowledge – preferred.
  • Forklift experience – preferred.
  • Computer software proficiency – preferred.
  • Warehouse experience – preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing experience – preferred.
  • Follows policies and procedures, responds to management direction.
  • Completes tasks on time or notifies the appropriate person with an alternate plan; prioritizes and plans work activities.
  • Strives to increase productivity.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and use fractions in all units of measure; compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Ability to use word processing software, spreadsheets, email, and internet.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
