** STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

To meet its trust responsibility to Indian Tribes, BIE works to strengthen education opportunities for American Indian students to be successful and competitive globally; to enhance student participation in their tribal communities; and support tribes in nation-building, in development of the next generation of tribal leaders.
Responsibilities:
The School Maintenance Worker (Boiler Operator) plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the school’s heating utilities and related mechanical systems. The incumbent is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of structures, facilities, and utility systems essential to campus operations. The primary purpose of this position is to manage and support the operation of multiple types of heating systems, including but not limited to low pressure and hot water boilers, gas/oil fired units, gas fired hot air systems, electric heating systems, and unit heaters.
• Conducts daily checks of controls, pumps, valves, circulatory systems, and auxiliary equipment on assigned heating systems.
• Reads gauges, meters, and recording devices; performs standard boiler water tests and documents results in required logs.
• Lubricates, cleans, and adjusts tanks, coils, boilers, domestic hot water tanks, and related heating equipment on a scheduled or as needed basis.
• Performs emergency and minor repairs on equipment such as radiators, steam traps, water heaters, steam kettles, cookers, pneumatic/electronic controls, pumps, boilers, and valves.
• Identifies and interprets system discrepancies and communicates them to the appropriate authority for correction.
• Maintains required records by completing and submitting daily shop orders, including time and materials in accordance with written/oral instructions, standard operating procedures, and safety regulations.
