Facility Maintenance
DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of the Department /Agency Head or designee, the employee performs various tasks involving the maintenance of the buildings and grounds of the Department / Agency. He/she uses good dexterity in operating small hand tools and power equipment and maintains the equipment in good operational order. As directed, the incumbent cleans restrooms, offices, and visitor use areas, collects trash, and cleans carpets.
Conducts routine inspections of the facilities for safety hazards and corrects or reports hazardous conditions or practices to ensure the safety of the employees and visitors.
Opens the Department/Agency in the morning ensuring all security features are disabled; lights and office machinery are turned on.
Performs routine maintenance tasks during the course of the day.
Performs errands on behalf of the Director.
Closes the Department/Agency and ensures that all doors are locked, and the security features are enabled, and office machinery is turned off.
Monitors the maintenance of the building’s generator and other machinery.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years experience as a maintenance worker with knowledge of operating various maintenance equipment.
FACTOR 1 – KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITIONKnowledge of the functions, locations, and organizational components of the Department/Agency.
Knowledge of security features and basic functioning of office machinery and equipment.
FACTOR 2 – SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Facility Officer receives general supervision from the Department/Agency Head or designee who defines the objectives, priorities, and deadlines. Work is reviewed upon completion to assess whether it conforms with established policies and procedures.
FACTOR 3 – GUIDELINESThe guidelines consist of on-the-job procedures. These guidelines have been pre-determined through on-the- job routines. Judgment must be used in interpreting and applying guidelines.
FACTOR 4 – COMPLEXITYThe job requires attention to detail and managing multiple tasks.
FACTOR 5 – SCOPE AND EFFECTThe scope of the work affects the entire Department/ Agency.
FACTOR 6 – PERSONAL CONTACTSContacts are with employees of the Department/ Agency.
FACTOR 7 – PURPOSE OF CONTACTSContacts are for the purpose of performing maintenance work.
FACTOR 8 – PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work involves routine maintenance tasks.
FACTOR 9 – WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment is within an office setting with daily trips to other government offices. The incumbent observes normal safety precautions when performing maintenance duties.
