Position: SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN

The Custodial team is actively looking for candidates who are searching for part‑time positions within Spokane Public Schools. This position provides custodial services throughout the district's facilities, ensuring a safe environment for staff, students, and community members. Custodial substitutes receive one‑on‑one training with supervising staff and typically work independently with minimal supervision.

This position provides flexible hours based upon demand. Morning and evening shifts are available. This is a non‑represented position. Hourly rate will be based on the MI‑3 Schedule adopted by the board.

Responsibilities
  • Follow cleaning and sanitization procedures, observing all safety rules.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop floors; move furniture and equipment; dust and wash furniture/fixtures/flooring/windows; clean gutters and drains; operate cleaning equipment; replace lights; sanitize health areas (bathrooms, locker rooms, drinking fountains, health room).
  • Maintain sidewalks and blacktop areas: watering lawn, weeding garden beds, clearing snow and de‑icing hard surfaces.
  • Assist with boiler cleaning.
  • Assist with securing building and crisis plan procedures.
  • Assist with building site events setup and support.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: at least six months of related work experience.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, stoop, bend, climb ladders, and perform labor during an eight‑hour shift.
  • Ability to read and comprehend operational instructions and write applicable reports.
  • Availability for contact in emergencies and ability to work after hours as requested.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and chemicals safety and disposal procedures.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Working Conditions

    Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, crawling, and other physical exertion. Work on ladders, low‑sloped and flat roofs, lift heavy supplies, and carry equipment. Possible exposure to elevated noise levels and potentially dangerous conditions. Protective gear required; work outdoors in inclement weather. Safety awareness at all times.
