Lead Custodian

Location: Spokane, Washington (Federal Building and U.S. Post Office)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-Time | M-F, Day Shift (6:00 am - 2:30 pm)

Compensation: $20.35 - $20.35/hour

Responsibilities
  • Lead by example while performing daily custodial duties alongside the custodial team.
  • Assign, coordinate, and monitor daily work assignments to ensure all contract requirements are completed on schedule and meet quality standards.
  • Train, coach, and support custodial employees on proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, safety procedures, and contract expectations.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure cleanliness, quality, and compliance with contract standards, addressing deficiencies as needed.
  • Follow and promote all safety policies, procedures, and industrial safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with customers, federal employees, building occupants, visitors, and management.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies following cross‑contamination prevention procedures.
  • Sweep, vacuum, dust, wet mop, and maintain offices, courtrooms, hallways, stairwells, lobbies, entrances, elevators, and other assigned areas according to contract standards.
  • Clean interior glass, doors, partitions, furniture, fixtures, and other high‑touch surfaces to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash and recyclable materials throughout the facility.
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment and cleaning tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintain janitorial closets and storage areas clean, organized, and compliant, ensuring equipment is cleaned and properly stored after each use.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and notify management when replenishment or replacement is needed.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, security issues, or facility damage to management promptly.
  • Ensure assigned areas are properly secured by locking doors and following all facility security procedures upon completion of assigned work.
  • Complete required documentation and communicate work status, concerns, or operational updates to management.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and team‑oriented work environment while supporting company values and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 0–3 years of previous custodian or janitorial experience preferred; combination of experience and education will be considered.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking; standing or sitting for several hours, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods.
Requirements
  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ‑compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative (U.S. passport or military ); you must obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E‑Verify will be conducted.
