POSITION TITLE:

Building Custodian

CLASSIFICATION:
Administration, regular, full time, non-exempt

Facilities Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

Maintains and enhances the organization’s property and patient and staff well-being by cleaning and maintaining all areas of the interior and exterior of the building. This position also supports general moving, transporting, and facility‑related duties, including operating company vehicles when needed for work‑related tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines daily in The NATIVE Project clinic, treatment, prevention, administration, and community center areas.
  • Weekly or monthly duties include using ladders to dust and wash walls, clean ceilings, and dust light fixtures. Washes windows and doors. Deep cleans selected areas of the building on a weekly, monthly, and annual rotation.
  • Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, supplies, and equipment to clean areas and to support general building operations, transport, and set‑up needs.
  • May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
  • May also sweep walks, rake leaves, trim shrubbery, remove snow, or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
  • Responsible for trash removal, recycling, stocking restrooms, and other areas after cleaning and disinfecting common areas used by patients and staff.
  • Orders, purchases, and stores supplies needed for building maintenance. Assists with maintaining an accurate property inventory list.
  • Operates company vehicles as needed to pick up, transport, or deliver supplies, equipment, furniture, or other materials in support of organizational operations.
  • Performs other duties as needed for building maintenance, moving, transport, and general facility support.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Building Maintenance performs work in a healthcare setting and may come into contact with patients with contagious illnesses. This position also requires indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions and involves physical labor, lifting, moving, loading, unloading, and transporting items and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, WISHA, and best practices in the maintenance field.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, both in leadership and peer relationships.
  • Ability to capably operate a variety of building maintenance, yard, and office equipment, such as a computer, photocopier, scanner, printer, postage meter, etc.
  • Ability to capably use Microsoft Word or other word processing programs and the ability to be trained to use other software programs, such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record in order to safely operate and drive company vehicles.
  • Must be able to travel locally, make purchases, run errands, and transport supplies, equipment, or other materials as needed.
  • Must be able to frequently walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, lift, carry, load, unload, and move heavy items as part of the general moving and transporting duties of the position.
  • Must be able to safely move and lift items weighing 10–50 pounds or more with appropriate assistance or equipment when necessary.
  • Uses “Sacred Hospitality” in serving patients and peers.
  • Supports recovery‑based lifestyles and patient outcomes.
  • Can successfully pass a criminal background check, OIG check, and a pre‑employment UA/BA.
