TOPS Staffing is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to support a long-term industrial water treatment plant project in Shady Hills, Florida. This role is ideal for a hands-on maintenance professional with strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience working in industrial or process-driven environments.
Position Overview
The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems throughout the facility. This individual will act as a maintenance lead, supporting preventative maintenance planning, coordinating subcontractor work, and ensuring the overall reliability and upkeep of plant equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair and replace valves, piping components, and related mechanical systems
- Perform routine maintenance in accordance with equipment manufacturer schedules
- Lubricate rotating equipment including pumps, motors, and blowers
- Perform pump alignment and bearing and seal replacement
- Identify and arrest leaks throughout mechanical systems
- Repair and maintain chemical dosing pumps
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractor activities as required
- Lead preventative maintenance planning and scheduling
- Support the overall upkeep and mechanical reliability of the facility
- Prepare reports documenting maintenance activities and equipment performance
- Advise on spare parts requirements, maintenance planning, and inventory control
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas through proper housekeeping
- Follow all safety policies and site-specific requirements
Qualifications and Skills
3–5 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience
Strong troubleshooting skills with water treatment systems including pumps, motors, blowers, valves, and piping
Ability to read and follow written, oral, and diagram-based instructions
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks or projects
Excellent communication skills and a professional, positive attitude
High attention to detail with a team-oriented approach
Education and Experience
Two-year technical school degree preferred, but equivalent hands-on experience will be considered
Prior experience working in industrial water treatment facilities strongly preferred
Experience with pretreatment, demineralization, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, EDI, thermal desalination, or zero-liquid discharge systems is a plus
Physical and Work Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to lift and move equipment as required
Ability to work in an active industrial environment
Willingness to work overtime as project demands require
