Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
Starting Rate: $20.63/hour
Eligibility Requirements: Open to All Applicants

- Walk route recording meter reading on data computer.
- Reports problems such as inaccessible meters, suspected tampering of meters, and/or theft of water or electric service while reading meters.
- Interacts with public while reading meters.
- Downloads route from Data Control Management Unit ITRON into handheld data computer and uploads readings to billing system.
- Travels to beginning of daily route and travels back to office.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to completion of a high school diploma or GED; maintain a valid Class D Illinois driver’s license; demonstrate the ability to read and accurately record numbered dials and/or digital readouts on a handheld computer with a basic understanding of electric and water distribution recording methods; interact effectively with the public by explaining services and answering questions in a pleasant and accurate manner;
and work outdoors in varying weather conditions while being comfortable in environments that may include dogs, unclean or cluttered basements, and poorly lit stairways, hallways, basements, and yards.
Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
