Field/Service Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
General Summary
The Field & Laboratory Technician will provide critical support across both environments and is essential to maintaining safe, efficient, and consistent operations while supporting a growing portfolio of technical projects. The position will address current safety gaps, improve lab maintenance and organization, and bridge key knowledge gaps in field construction and pipeline-related activities.
Work LocationThe position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. This is a laboratory-based position that requires in-person work 5 days a week.
Primary Responsibilities- Support execution of laboratory testing programs including setup, monitoring, and teardown
- Assist with field activities such as pipeline installation, repair, purging, and system preparation
- Maintain and organize laboratory spaces including Pipe Farm, 636 Lab, and Grey/Green Labs
- Serve as area safety support ensuring proper PPE use and adherence to safety procedures
- Perform equipment maintenance and ensure readiness of tools and test rigs
- Operate equipment such as forklifts and assist with material handling
- Support multiple concurrent projects to ensure timely and efficient execution
- Assist in developing and maintaining best practices for lab and field operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Understanding of field construction practices and safety requirements
- Familiarity with pipeline systems including installation, repair, and purging
- Knowledge of maintenance tools and general equipment upkeep
- Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout
- Strong hands‑on technical aptitude
- Ability to work across both lab and field environments
- Trained in laboratory and field safety
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and relevant software
- Lifting up to 70 pounds
- Standing 1-2 hours
- Pushing up to 2500 pounds on a pallet jack
- Working in hot, dusty conditions
- Working with hot gases, solids, liquids, steam, combustion equipment, high pressures
- Uneven working surfaces, granting, and ladders
- High school diploma required
- 2 – 5+ years of relevant experience with a high school diploma, or 1 – 3+ years of relevant work experience with an associate’s degree
- Forklift Certification preferred
- Welding Certification preferred

Pay TransparencyThe salary range for this position is $24 - $29 USD hourly. This salary range is GTI Energy’s good faith estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, GTI Energy’s business or organizational needs and an individual’s relevant experience, education, qualifications, certifications, skills, seniority, geographic location, and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus.
