Seasonal Field Inspector

Illinois Crop Improvement Association is looking for self-motivated individuals who enjoy the outdoors for seasonal field inspector positions. The inspection season is from mid-June until mid-October with openings in LaSalle, Bureau, and Lee Counties. Inspectors are based out of their homes and receive their work orders from the home office in Champaign, IL.

• Visiting corn and soybean fields
• Checking for stand quality and purity issues, and recording findings
• Reporting inspection results to Illinois Crop Improvement via mail, phone, and email

Day-to-day work is dependent on plant growth stage of the field and the number of fields available around the inspector’s location. The average time commitment is 30 hours per week, but this is variable depending on the growth stage of the fields to be inspected. Fields may require multiple visits over the course of multiple weeks.

• No experience is necessary, and training will be provided
• Must be 18+ years of age to apply
• Valid Driver's License
• Reliable transportation
• Sufficient mobility to walk into and around a seed production field
• Ability and technology to complete Excel and PDF documents, and to work with app-based time-keeping software.
• Willingness to drive for extended distances (Max 70 miles from home)
• Ability to drive to Champaign, IL. for initial training
• Able to interpret maps, written directions, and GPS coordinates
• Good organizational skills
• Willingness to be outdoors
• Ability to work independently

Hourly wage covers training, field inspections, completing and mailing paperwork, travel time to and from fields, and all other work-related duties. Mileage is reimbursed at the current IRS rate for all work-related driving.
