Assistant Custodian

The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an Assistant Custodian for Kenwood/Horace Mann Elementary School for the  school year. This nationally ranked Division I District serves approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography.

As an Assistant Custodian you are required to:

• High School Diploma or the equivalent
• Train and/or experience which evidences a knowledge of custodial and basic maintenance techniques

As an Assistant Custodian you will:

• Ensure cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, and steps and recycles materials according to the recycling program
• Clean restrooms and locker rooms daily and replenish supplies
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and custodial equipment including groundskeeping equipment
• Set up and take down special equipment for assemblies, special programs and other activities
• Operate necessary equipment to promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment
• Assist in the cafeteria during lunch, and assist in cleaning the kitchen
• Guard property against fire, theft, and illegal entry and obey all safety regulations at all times
• Provide security for buildings by attending to the physical plant during open hours and secure all doors, windows, and restricted areas during closed hours and respond to Sonitrol calls in the absence of the Head Custodian
• Close the building by shutting off all lights, locking all doors and windows, and unlock doors as required
• Perform a variety of tasks to the grounds surrounding the building including mowing, trimming shrubbery, removing snow and ice, picking up and emptying receptacles, etc.
• Lift and move equipment, furniture, supplies, or materials (e.g., weight up to 50 lbs, and distances up to 50 yards)

As a contracted employee, this position works 8 hours per day, 260 days per year. Kenwood / Horace Mann split position Monday - Friday. Kenwood - 3:00 p.m.

- 7:00 p.m. or As Assigned Horace Mann - 8:00 p.m.

- 12:00 a.m. or As Assigned. Starting salary is $20.41 per hour. All employees receive professional development and excellent competitive benefits! $1,500 bonus paid in November.
