1st Shift – 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Responsibilities- Perform regular, scheduled, and directed floor and stairs maintenance using manual tools or powered floor machines to sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, and wax floors according to guidelines.
- Perform carpet and upholstery maintenance using manual tools or powered carpet extractors, shampooers, vacuums, and upholstery tools.
- Clean building furnishings by dusting, washing, or polishing office furniture and equipment such as desks, chairs, tables, cabinets, bookcases, file cabinets, lamps, and registers.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of lavatories, restrooms, showers, and locker rooms, following prescribed procedures, using appropriate chemicals, and restocking paper products.
- Clean classroom or meeting room furniture and equipment, including blackboards, whiteboards, desks, and chairs, and remove all trash and waste from these areas.
- Clean interior walls by removing adhesive tape, thumb tacks, paper pins, staples, and washing with prescribed wall cleaners.
- Wash all interior and lower level exterior glass (windows, mirrors, door glass) using pressure washers, foaming equipment, extension poles, ladders, and glass cleaners.
- Collect and transport trash from assigned areas to outside dumpsters, and empty the dumpsters.
- Collect and transport recyclable materials to outside recycling dumpsters, ensuring the dumpster is locked after dumping.
- Use cleaning chemicals properly and safely, wearing required protective clothing, following mixing directions, applying chemicals correctly, and disposing or storing residues.
- Unload delivery trucks or pick up cleaning supplies, carrying and transporting them using a hand truck or vehicle to the designated storage facility.
- Prepare classrooms, meeting rooms, auditoriums, arenas, and outdoor locations for special events by moving furniture, tarping floors, and setting up equipment, tables, chairs, stages, podiums, and curtains.
- Prevent accidents caused by snow or ice on walkways by shoveling, sweeping, and spreading salt, sand, or chemicals.
- Respond to emergency situations such as water leaks, flooding, overflowing fixtures, bodily fluid spills, broken glass, and others, following prescribed procedures.
- Perform building, facilities, and contents protection and security by checking assigned areas, locking/unlocking office spaces, and notifying authorities when security is in jeopardy.
- Report damage to buildings, furnishings, equipment, and emergency conditions to the immediate supervisor or Office of Safety and Transportation.
- Depending on departmental assignment, replace light bulbs, use special disposal/recycling methods, operate washers and dryers, assist with repairs, and perform flood remediation in student living areas.
- Depending on departmental assignment, clean outdoor entryways, loading docks, or areas around dumpsters using hand tools, scrubbers, or pressure washers.
- Perform routine maintenance of custodial equipment, including belt or bag replacement and cleaning.
- May provide information on campus building locations to students, staff, parents, etc., and advise them of potentially unsafe conditions.
- Contribute to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties as assigned.
- Completion of the 10th grade is required; a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Significant custodial experience can substitute for the required formal education.
- At least one year of custodial experience, including knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and supplies, is required.
