Location:

Lambert Airport, St. Louis, MO
Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi‑weekly.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles such as changing oil, replacing filters, checking tires, belts, hoses, lights, and fluid levels.
  • Works with all alternative fuels as they become available.
  • Washes Airport Authority fleet vehicles.
  • Picks up auto parts.
  • Assists Fleet Maintenance Technicians III and IV.
  • Performs other special assignments and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Data utilization – ability to compile, assemble, copy, record, and transcribe data according to a prescribed scheme.
  • Human interaction – ability to explain, demonstrate, and clarify procedures; follow instructions; respond to requests.
  • Equipment, machinery, tools, and materials use – ability to operate, calibrate, tune, and adjust motor vehicles and related tools such as drill press, welder, forklift, hydraulic press, battery tester, steam cleaner, and power washer.
  • Verbal aptitude – ability to utilize reference and descriptive data such as safety regulations, work orders, manuals, time cards, and parts manuals.
  • Mathematical aptitude – ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate percentages and decimals.
  • Functional reasoning – ability to apply principles, interpret instructions, and exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods.
  • Situational reasoning – ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in evaluating information against criteria.
  • Environmental factors – exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, temperature, noise, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, and toxic agents.
  • Physical requirements – regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing 50–100 pounds; ability to stand for long periods.
  • Sensory requirements – ability to recognize colors, odors, shapes, sounds, and textures to determine fluid condition, detect malfunctions, and track wear.
Other Requirements
  • Must be available to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Undergo a ten‑year background investigation per FAA regulations.
Qualifications

Successful completion of a recognized trade school or junior college program in automotive technology OR two years of recent full‑time paid experience in repair and maintenance of automotive equipment and vehicles OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles. Employees must furnish their own set of hand tools.

License

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Proof must be provided upon application.

Veteran’s Preference

To be eligible for veteran’s preference points, submit a DD‑214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the application.

City Residence Preference Points

City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference receive a five‑point preference on a 100‑point scale. An additional point is added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one year at the time of application.
