Overview
Signal Support Systems Specialists ensure the flow of information within Army National Guard units. They integrate signal systems and networks, perform signal support functions and unit-level maintenance on authorized signal equipment, and install, operate, and maintain radio and data distribution systems.
Responsibilities- Maintain radio and data distribution systems.
- Perform signal support functions and technical assistance for computer systems.
- Provide technical assistance and training for local area networks.
- Maintain equipment, terminal devices, assigned vehicles, and power generators.
- Supervise and train other Soldiers in signal support systems and terminal devices.
- Provide technical assistance and training for automation and communications equipment.
- Prepare maintenance and supply requests for unit-level signal support.
- Operate and perform preventative maintenance checks and services on assigned vehicles.
Training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training followed by 18 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), combining hands‑on and classroom instruction. Skills gained qualify for civilian careers in communications and electronic equipment manufacturing, and additional study plus two years of electronics experience can lead to certification as an Associate Certified Electronics Technician.
