Meter Technician FIN-METER/2
This position participates in meter reading and grounds maintenance functions.
Major DutiesThe Meter Reader position reports directly to the Finance Director and/or the Assistant Finance Director.
The Utility Billing Specialist assigns work according to general instructions and spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines include City and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope Of Work- The work consists of related meter readings and ground maintenance duties. Inclement weather and field conditions contribute to the position's complexity.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in accurate meter readings and ground maintenance operations. Success in this position contributes to accurate meter data, correct customer billing, and well-maintained grounds.
- As a municipal organization, the City of St. Marys is an emergency provider of services. Some emergency situations, including weather-related emergencies, may necessitate City of St. Mary employees assisting in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employee's specific job function but are within the employee's physical capabilities, training, and skills.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, customers, and the general public.
Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold and/or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, and grease.

High school diploma or equivalent required; and less than one year of related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work. Possession of a valid state driver’s license issued for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
