PAY: Please note that the salary for this position is currently listed as "To Be Determined" for the 2026-27 school year. The District and the Classified Union are currently in collective bargaining, and the final salary and cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) will be established once the new contract is ratified. We will provide updated compensation details as soon as they become available.
The current pay for this position (2025-26 school year) is $18.70 to $24.60.
RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION: The North Santiam School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee’s salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees who have worked at least 6 months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.

Job GoalTo provide the students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place to learn, play, and develop. To perform cleaning work in school buildings according to the schedule provided by the Head Custodian/ Administrator/Facilities Director.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsPositions assigned to the Custodian classification are distinguished from the Head Custodian classification by job duties limited to cleaning and light maintenance.
Essential Requirements- High School diploma or equivalent; some experience in school custodial work preferred
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and teachers
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to make minor repairs
- Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill, efficiency, and safety
- Knowledge of cleansing methods and the use, care, and safety of cleaning materials and equipment
- Knowledge of requirements for maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition
- Knowledge of the operation of a heating plant and its equipment
- Familiar with handling and disposal of hazardous materials
- Requires a moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to lift and move furniture, desks, shelving, staging, and cleaning supplies
- Requires the ability to operate buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and other equipment
- Requires the ability to climb ladders, stretch, and bend to perform cleaning, repairs, painting, cleaning roof gutters, and drains
- Ability to walk to various locations within the school building and the grounds
- Ability to work primarily in a standing position
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids in cleaning due to student injury or illness
- Ability to work primarily during evening hours when school is in session and change to daytime hours at other times of the year
- Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students
- Such an alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable.
