Position:
Special Education Teacher – Learning Behavior Specialist (Co-Taught or Resource Teacher)

Reports To:

Principal and Director of Teaching and Learning QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS) endorsement

OBJECTIVES

The teacher is responsible for implementing the individual education programs and evaluating student progress for students in special education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assesses special needs of individual students and collaborates with staff in meeting those needs.

Maintains appropriate student records.

Provides instructions to classroom and 1-1 paraprofessionals and engenders a team atmosphere.

Motivates students through positive feedback based upon their i.e.p.s and school-wide PBIS, if appropriate.

Participates in district and school committees.

Maintains a clean, attractive and safe learning environment.

Maintains positive relationships and works with parents to achieve student objectives.

Attends meetings as required.

Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.

Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.

Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.

13. Performs other duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move from 10 to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
