Job Summary:
To provide academic support to students who are English Language Learners to help them transition to speaking, reading and writing the English language
Essential Functions:
- Conduct assessments and identify students for the Program
- Develop program curriculum
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
- Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of English Language Learner students
- Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and help the students make a satisfactory transition to a regular classroom
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities
- Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records
- Communicates with parents through a variety of means
- Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress and interprets the school program
- Communicates with classroom teachers regarding the Program and student information
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records

Physical Activity:
The role requires frequent walking and standing
Work Environment:
The work environment is generally stable, with minimal exposure to unusual temperatures, noise, or hazards. The position requires extended and non-traditional hours to fulfill job duties, as well as participation in organization-sponsored events and meetings
Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
Bilingual Education endorsement or ESL endorsement
Licenses/Credential:
Valid Illinois Teacher's License (PEL)
Terms of Employment:
All terms of employment are outlined by the collective bargaining agreement with the Steger Education Association
Evaluation:
The performance of this role is evaluated according to the Board's policy on evaluating professional personnel
