Position Overview

Re-1 Valley School District is seeking a dependable and hardworking Evening Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming facilities for our students, staff, and community. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works independently, and is committed to supporting student success through a positive learning environment.

Reports to: Building Principal

Salary: Starting at $16.79/hour on Classified Hourly Schedule

FLSA status: Non‑Exempt

Work calendar: 260 days

FTE: 1.0

Full‑time with benefits; 5‑day work week Monday‑Friday

Responsibilities
- Building Cleaning & Sanitation
  • Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, cafeterias, and common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize assigned spaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
  • Refill restroom supplies, soap dispensers, and paper products.
  • Clean windows, glass surfaces, and entryways as assigned.
  • Perform floor care including stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning as needed.

  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and equipment issues promptly.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with furniture moving, room setup, and event preparation.
  • Monitor and maintain custodial equipment and supplies.

  • Secure buildings by locking doors, turning off lights, and conducting end‑of‑shift building checks.
  • Follow district safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with district policies and OSHA standards.
  • Assist with snow removal, ice mitigation, and other seasonal facility needs when assigned.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and community members.
  • Attend required district training and meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain transportation to assigned work location.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
Qualifications
- Preferred
  • Previous custodial, maintenance, or janitorial experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment, floor care, and custodial best practices.
  • Experience working in a school setting.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and climbing.
  • Ability to work around cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions
  • Climbing, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Exposure to electrical shock and heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs).
  • Exposure to weather.
  • Near and far acuity requirements.
  • Field of vision and hearing considerations.
