TitleTechnician II, FSC Building Support
Under direct supervision, provides leadership, guidance, and training for assigned custodial and maintenance personnel and performs comprehensive Operations and Maintenance (O&M) duties to ensure Fernbank Science Center facilities, grounds, and building systems remain clean, safe, attractive, efficient, and fully operational. Operations and Maintenance (O&M) encompasses the daily operation and long-term preservation of physical assets through proactive strategies such as inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and environmental stewardship.
EssentialJob Duties
- Performs and oversees custodial, maintenance, and groundskeeping duties including cleaning, landscaping, horticulture,, stripping and waxing floors, replacing ceiling lights and tiles, and making minor repairs to building equipment.
- Manages daily facility operations including housekeeping, grounds, inventory, and coordination of access for events and programs.
- Maintains and supports the horticulture, landscaping, irrigation systems, greenhouse operations, and outdoor learning environments.
- Oversees preventive maintenance programs for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and structural systems to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
- Conducts formal and informal inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
- Provides guidance and training to custodial and maintenance staff in regular duties and special project work.
- Coordinates room setups, furniture and equipment movement for instructional programs, exhibits, and community events.
- Makes requisitions for custodial and maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment necessary for the proper operation and safety of the facility.
- Maintains operational records and prepares reports concerning facility operations, maintenance performance, and project activities.
- Ensures compliance with safety standards, building codes, and district policies; supports emergency preparedness and response procedures.
- Supports renovation, exhibit installation, construction, and facility upgrade projects through coordination with vendors and internal departments.
- Supervises assigned staff to ensure the beautification, maintenance, and operational readiness of Fernbank Science Center.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required with a minimum of three (3) years of custodial, maintenance, facilities, or closely related experience demonstrating proficiency necessary to perform the duties of the position.
- Experience in museum, science center, or educational facilities is preferred.
- Professional certifications in Facilities Management or Horticulture are beneficial.
