Housekeeper – Full Time Night Shift

Position Summary: At Stony Brook Medicine, Housekeepers perform a variety of custodial and housekeeping tasks such as requisitioning linens and household supplies, cleaning, caring for and maintaining assigned buildings or areas of large buildings including patient rooms, administrative work areas, study areas, classrooms, meeting rooms, and laboratories. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent intrapersonal skills and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.

• Picks up and removes hazardous articles from floors, furniture, and equipment and places them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations.
• Uses mops, brushes, and other cleaning implements to wash floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows from the inside of buildings.
• Uses manual and/or mechanical equipment to vacuum, wax floors, and shampoo carpets.
• Uses hand‑operated equipment and detergents to scrub and clean lavatories.
• Washes light fixtures and replaces bulbs using appropriate equipment such as ladders.
• Polishes wood and metal fixtures and equipment.
• Requisition s and dispenses linens, household supplies, and equipment, maintaining appropriate inventories.
• Reports need for building repairs and recommends repair and replacement of furniture, building fixtures, and household equipment to superiors.
• Provides continual training on cleanliness, communication, and customer service skills.

This is a float position that may perform work throughout the facility.

Required: Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand verbal communication at a basic level is required.

Preferred: Previous experience working in a hospital setting and/or in the hospital industry. Possess excellent intrapersonal skills, time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.

Anticipated Pay Range: $38,235/year.

Additional annual supplemental pay may include location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full‑time positions ($4,000), convenience pay/supplemental shift differential ($575). You will also receive generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
