We seek an experienced, caring educator to establish and lead a Montessori-inspired adolescent classroom for students of age 12-14 years. Candidates should have expertise in one or two core academic areas (e.g. Language, Humanities, Math, Sciences). In addition, they must serve as a guide and mentor for students, coordinating field trips, service learning, entrepreneurial activity, and leadership. Candidates should be spiritually committed within any faith tradition.

About our School

Unity Academy of Chicago is a Montessori school located in Streamwood, Illinois, for children between the ages of 3 and 14. We have approximately 100 students in 2025-26. In our 6th year of operation, we are establishing an adolescent program in a new purpose built facility. We strive to provide our students with an education that instills a lifelong love for learning and excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Apply current research in the field of adolescence that align with Montessori philosophy
  • Serve as an inspiring role model
  • Practice personal and professional reflection, self-care, and renewal activities on a regular basis
  • Recognize and support the development of positive qualities in the adolescent by maintaining a vision of what students can become, and providing support and encouragement for each student to achieve his or her full potential
  • Observe and respond to adolescent needs for leadership, movement, creativity, problem-solving, responsibility, independence, and autonomy
  • Demonstrate mastery of curriculum content by providing whole- and small-group lessons, mini lessons, and individual coaching to students
  • Create work that helps students synthesize learning
  • Foster and support cooperation and collaboration within the adolescent community
  • Assist the adolescent in finding her/his place in society
Work Hours and Benefits

This is a full time position. It is expected that candidates are willing to travel to accompany students during field work and overnight trips.

Our school provides funds for continuous professional development. Staff members with children receive tuition remission.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience in a holistic education setting, such as Montessori, homeschooling, parochial school, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to harness community resources to widen the experiences of students
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 2+ years experience in teaching or mentoring
