Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
Maintenance Mechanic A is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing and modifying all processing, packaging and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency. In addition, the incumbent possesses supervisory responsibilities and functions.
Position Functions- Directs the daily activities and assigns tasks to mechanics. This also includes training and monitoring the work of such employees.
- Assists in the procurement of parts and planning of repairs.
- Leads complex projects, preventive maintenance activities and repairs across the facility.
- Operates CMMS system and demonstrates 100% functionality in order to complete work orders as well as log corrective maintenance issues in the system.
- Effectively communicates with Technical Support, production personnel and other mechanics to identify problematic areas of concern; provides and receives feedback and support through collection and analysis of information.
- Performs electrical repairs and troubleshoot for PLC Controls, AC & DC motor controls, solid state motor controls, advance circuits and grounding, interprets diagrams, and tests equipment.
- Reads schematics, drawings, and manuals to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Performs emergency repairs: installs, fabricates and modifies stainless steel parts and/or equipment using shop equipment such as welding and cutting machines; welds utilizing electrode, TIG and MIG welders.
- Supports facility maintenance equipment, which includes waste water equipment, compressed air, refrigeration, and building safety equipment.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the company's objectives including productivity, yields, food safety, quality, customer service and cost goals; daily work activities should support achieving those goals.
- Oversees or performs (as needed) daily inspections, emergency repairs, routine adjustments and follows periodic preventive maintenance schedule.
- Maintains organized documentation and inspection records; is prepared for a facility audit of such records and related processes.
- Models professional workplace conduct and adherence to company policies such as the Code of Conduct, attendance, punctuality, efficient and productive work habits, and good personal hygiene.
- Provides support to Process Improvement (PI) projects and participates on safety teams.
- Serves as a resource to others in order to resolve mechanical and/or people issues.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Qualifications Desired
Physical Requirements: The employee is required to stand for extended periods of time (duration of the shift, 8 hours or more); walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; bend continuously; or crawl. The incumbent must be able to climb stairs and ladders or step up onto a platform several times throughout the shift; and is occasionally required to sit.
The employee must be able to push/pull/lift and/or move 50 pounds. The incumbent must operate light motorized equipment, hand and power tools skillfully and safely.
Work Environment: The employee is occasionally exposed to wet/cold conditions of 34–36 degrees and also at times hot conditions; high, precarious places (ex: 25 feet above ground level for extended hours); and outside weather conditions (rooftop). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud, which may require hearing protection.
- Possesses proficient mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills (logic and control circuits) and emergency repair skills; can identify and repair problematic issues concerning all equipment and machinery, including finding innovative solutions to recurrent problems.
- Can use a multimeter and other measurement instruments.
- Can read, write and speak English.
- Can direct and lead the daily Maintenance activities during the shift.
- Works effectively in a team setting, as well as promotes teamwork and cooperation.
