Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Sheiban Jewelers is a luxury jewelry store with an authorized service center for a multitude of luxury watch brands. The Watch Technician supports in-house watch repair and service operations by working alongside the Watchmaker to perform routine watch maintenance, repair, and cosmetic restoration. This role focuses on tasks such as battery and strap replacement, bracelet and band sizing, quartz movement service, case and bracelet polishing, case and bracelet assembly/ disassembly, and water-resistance testing.
The Watch Technician also plays a key role in parts ordering and maintaining accurate repair records.
This position may be structured as part-time or full-time depending on the candidate and business needs, and is well suited to someone early in a horology career, a graduate of a watchmaking/jewelry technical program, or an experienced bench professional looking to specialize in case/ bracelet polishing work rather than full movement overhaul.
Watch Repair & Service- Replace watch batteries and other electronic components; test replacements for proper function.
- Replace watch straps, bands, and bracelets; size bracelets and straps to fit customer wrist measurements.
- Replace watch crystals, crowns, stems, and spring bars.
- Inspect timepieces under a loupe or microscope for cosmetic and mechanical condition prior to and after service.
- Perform case and bracelet refinishing consistent with manufacturer finishing standards.
- Perform case disassembly/reassembly for routine service tasks under Watchmaker guidance.
- Conduct water-resistance/pressure testing using a pressure tester and gasket replacement as needed.
- Clean watch cases, bracelets, and components using ultrasonic cleaners and appropriate solutions.
- Provide preliminary repair estimates and communicate timelines to customers.
- Complete and maintain accurate repair tickets, including item description, serial/model numbers, work performed, and charges.
- Identify, order, and track spare parts and repair supplies; maintain organized parts inventory.
- Notify manager when repairs are complete.
- Follow-up with customers on delays of outstanding repairs, as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized bench and properly care for tools and equipment.
- Work directly alongside the Watchmaker for more complex mechanical movement repairs, while independently handling refinishing work, battery changes, and other small jobs.
- Support the sales team with basic in-store services (battery changes, band adjustments).
