Overview

The City of Sugar Land is seeking two full-time Utilities Maintenance Workers in the Utilities Department.

Responsibilities
  • Assist utility crews in maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and installation of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Develop a basic knowledge of the water distribution and wastewater collection system.
  • Observe and train in routine repairs to water mains and sanitary lines.
  • Learn how to perform routine diagnostics of problems.
  • Observe and train in main line valve, fire hydrant, and manhole preventive maintenance.
  • Observe and train in water and wastewater line locates.
  • Learn minor concrete work and landscaping including basic irrigation repairs.
  • Learn procedures involved in operating, maintaining, and cleaning utility equipment such as pumps, backhoes, jet machines, and generators.
  • Work as an essential employee before, during, and after emergencies or disasters.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Relatable

    Work Experience:

    No previous water or wastewater related experience required.
  • Training (License and/or Certification):
    Valid Texas Driver License;
    National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS-100.b, ICS-200, ICS-700.a within three months after hire date.
